Mother Child Health Nepal (MOCHEN) recently organized a comprehensive five-day first aid training program aimed at equipping community members with essential lifesaving skills. The training was held at MOCHEN’s headquarters in Chitwan and saw enthusiastic participation from a diverse group of attendees, including local volunteers, school teachers, and healthcare workers.
Purpose of the Training
The primary goal of the training program was to empower participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate assistance in emergencies. By educating the community on basic first aid practices, MOCHEN aims to enhance the overall safety and preparedness of the population, particularly in remote areas where access to medical facilities may be limited.
Training Highlights
Over the course of five days, participants received hands-on training in various first aid techniques, including:
- Basic Life Support (BLS): Participants learned how to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and manage choking incidents.
- Wound Care: Instructions on how to clean, dress, and manage different types of wounds to prevent infection.
- Fracture Management: Techniques to stabilize fractures and handle sprains and strains effectively.
- Burn Treatment: Guidelines for treating minor burns and preventing further damage.
- Emergency Response: Steps to take during common emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, and seizures.
The training sessions were led by experienced healthcare professionals from MOCHEN, who provided practical demonstrations and facilitated interactive activities to ensure participants could apply their knowledge in real-life situations.
Participant Feedback
The training received positive feedback from attendees. Rita Gurung, a local school teacher, remarked, “This training has been incredibly valuable. I now feel confident in my ability to provide first aid to my students and community members in case of an emergency.”
Impact on the Community
By equipping community members with first aid skills, MOCHEN is fostering a safer and more resilient community. The training ensures that individuals are better prepared to respond to emergencies, potentially saving lives and reducing the severity of injuries before professional medical help arrives.
Future Plans
MOCHEN plans to conduct similar first aid training programs in other regions, expanding its reach and impact. The organization is committed to continuous community education and capacity-building initiatives to promote health and safety across Nepal.
Support and Involvement
MOCHEN invites community members, partners, and donors to support these vital training programs. Contributions will help MOCHEN expand its educational initiatives and ensure more communities have access to essential health and safety training.
